compassionate communication

NVC: The natural state of compassion where no violence is present in the heart

We indeed, all have road bumps in our relationships at times. And it's not for lack of love or interest or desire to connect, but sometimes our way of voicing what really matters comes out in a way that doesen't best serve helping us get what we want... usually, understanding, love, connection, intimacy...
Compassionate communication training is a way of building empathy - that is, the ability to hear and connect with what another person is saying regardless of their delivery; as well as building honesty - the ability to know what matters most to us and how to get it, in a way that serves life and connection and doesn't create more disharmony.
Sounds impossible, right?
Welcome to the land of Nonviolent communication - where we all people's needs ARE met, without compromise. Granted, it takes work! But the work involved fades in comparison the the beauty of experincing the possibilities of meeting everyone's needs and living harmoniously and in a space where you both understand and are understood.

What is NVC?
Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is based on the principles of nonviolence--
the natural state of compassion when no violence is present in the heart.
It is a philosophy that begins by assuming that we are all compassionate by nature and that violent strategies—whether verbal or physical--
are learned behaviors taught and supported by the prevailing culture.
NVC also assumes that we all share the same, basic human needs,
and that each of our actions are a strategy to meet one or more of these needs.

People who practice NVC have found greater authenticity in their communication, increased understanding, deepening connection and conflict resolution.

Free PODCAST - NVC OVERVIEW
NVC was developed by Marshall Rosenberg and to me, is a world view. It is an orientation to peace and peace building. It uses love, compassion and connection as the goals and tools towards this peace building. NVC can be used in a large world wide social justice sphere or enriching communication in a small, intimate, personal relationship. It is powerful beyond measure and gives practical, step-by-step help to people wanting to understand themselves better, and connect with other people more.
Some people find NVC transformative in the following ways:
  • conflict resolution
  • deepening relationships
  • self care and self love/esteem
  • compassion for others
  • deepening connection to humanity
  • gaining understanding and insight
  • building on a spirituality of peace and connectedness
  • practical tools for communication
  • strengthening resilience in relationships and workplaces
  • confidence building (the ability to know you are ok and you can handle what comes)
  • learning and developing empathy skills
